August 1st - 7th Breastfeeding Week!!

As a breastfeeder myself, I fully support it as well as those who choose to forumla feed because I've been on both sides of the fence. I fully know the "looks" and the "high Fives".

I want to share my stories for those that need a little extra "Hey you are doing great, keep up the good work."

My first, Bubby, nurse full time for only six weeks. Then I had to give him forumla throughout the day at daycare because when I pumped I wasn't getting the recommended three to four ounces. It also didn't help that I didn't have regularly scheduled breaks. Working at that same daycare was well really HELL and it really hurt me when I couldn't it anymore but seeing as how my supply was getting low it was time for us to go full on forumla at six months.

Ok fine I'll live and he is striving and growing no problem. Two months late I find that I'm pregnant again.

First bout of depression and sadness. "This is too soon. I'm not ready for another." "When did it happen?" Sobbing while looking at the test, after about four weeks of feeling nausea I go in for my first appt. Find out I'm 14 weeks along!!

I tell myself "Okay this wont be so bad because I will nurse again and maybe this time longer." I find out the sex it's another boy, YAY!! OH NO FIGHTS GALORE!! "How will I do it with 2 under 2?!"

Needless to say Boog is two months away from turning two and we are still nursing. Though sometimes I wish he would STOP, but then other times it's like really why do I want him to stop. He does drink regular milk, but not as much as brother, he also drinks juice and water and everything else in between. He just perfers mommies milk over those other things.

He only nurses 2-3 times a day unlike a newborn who will nurse every 2-3/4hrs which is prefectly fine. It's what they need and some really want to be close to mommy at night and that's one way of doing it.

Here is a post with some wonderful information from one of my most advocate supports. It helps to have a support group to go to when you need it, I know it's helped a TON.

  1. My experience was very similar (oldest nursed and supplemented for 3-4 months, youngest is approaching 17 months of bewbie). Happy National Breastfeeding Week!

  2. Whoo-hoo! A shout out to the boobie mamas! Almost 2 years? That's amazing. Thanks for sharing your stories... I think that breastfeeding was one of the most challenging things I've ever done, but definitely worth it. I only lasted 6 months, and my supply was decreased (due to stress and not eating properly) so we had to give it up eventually. I hope to con't longer with future kiddos.

  5. First of all your blog is BEAUTIFUL. I am a purple fan, too. Secondly, you've really made me miss nursing. It was such a special and sacred time. Yea, sure it was stressful sometimes, too!
