31 Family Devotions For Christmas Day EIGHTEEN Dec. 18th

7 Days Until Christmas

This message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.
I JOHN 1:5

This year as you admire the twinkling beauty of Christmas lights, ask the LORD to continually light up your heart with His love. Confess your sins to Him and get rid of any darkness that might be invading your soul. Then listen to the prompting of the Spirit--pray for someone, call an old friend, mend a relationship. Even if you assume others know how much you love them, tell them anyway.

Prayer:

Dear God, please purify my heart and remove all the darkness within me. Let Your light shine in my soul so that others may see You living in me. In Jesus' name, amen.

Family Activity:

Take a lights tour! Pop some popcorn and gather some snacks and a thermos of hot cocoa. Drive to several neighborhoods and view Christmas lights with the car windows down. Bring your camera and take pictures of your favorite displays.

Stress-Free Tip:

Make and deliver gifts to your neighbors. Some great, no-stress gifts to give your friends next door include cookie trays; homemade breaeds, fudge, or chocolate-drizzled kettle corn; and homemade crafts.

Recipe:

French Butter Cookies

Ingredients

1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
1 egg
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cream of tartar

Directions

Cream butter, oil, sugar, egg, and vanilla. Beat until thick and creamy. Add dry ingredients. You may want to tint dough with a few drops of red or green food coloring. Chill for at least 2 hours. Shape dough into 3/4-inch balls; place on greased cookie sheet about 2 inches apart. Flatten balls with colored sugar. Bake at 350 degrees for 5-8 minutes.
