MomDot Blog Party Day 2

Getting ahead start today.

Today's question is "What kind of traditions run in the family for the holidays."

So here are a few of our Family Traditions, since we've been a family since 05.

The on thing I always look forward to both at Thanksgiving and Chritmas dinner is HOMEMADE NOODLES. I helped make them when I was younger and I will soon be making my own and having the boys help me.

On to the Christmas traditions.

The hubs and I get up and make breakfast make sure we got all the presents out under the tree. We usually let the boys sleep until they wake up. I put on some christmas music and light a candle, for my grandpa that past before I even got to know him. That tradition has been the family since as long as I can remember and I'd like to keep it going.

Then the boys wake up and we open present while eating, it's usually Pillsbury Cinnamon Rolls and milk. Makes the house smell delicious.

After we open up gifts, last year and the years before we traveled five minutes to the inlaws and opened their gifts. This I think we are gonna do it again here at MY HOUSE. I hate traveling with the boys and packing gifts. Anyway last we had family come over and opened the gifts that they had.

I had food cooking in two pots. Noodles in a big crockpot and then some turkey and vegetables in a warmer, I think. I can't remember what it's called because it's my moms.

After opening gifts it's time to eat and spend time playing with the gifts.

That's really about it. Not much of a tradition but some of it I just carried down from when I was younger.

  1. Homemade noodles? Ok. That is completely new to me! I am so inspired by your candle tradition though. I can think of quite a few people I would like to honor that way. Thanks Jess!

  2. I highly recommend one of the fabulously delicious overnight casseroles you can find on AllRecipes.com! I make a baked french toast on Christmas Eve, then run down stairs in the morning to take it out of the fridge and bake it. Or you can find an egg casserole do to the same type of thing!

Oh, packing gifts is such a pain! This is the first year we're flying to NY with the kids and I have no idea how we'll get everything back! Here's My Day 2! I put Mr. Linky in there, too, so leave your link!

  4. We make Homemade Chicken and Dumplings! Yummo! The dumplings are more like noodles not the big fluffy kind. It's a recipe that was handed down from my DH's grandmother. I love the candle idea!

  5. My mom makes homemade noodles too! How funny is that. My favorite part is letting her roll them and I get to cut them.

I hate to pack up gifts too, such a pain, but since my mom does all the cooking, I figure it's only fair for us to go to them.

  15. O love your traditions! It is so nice that you remember your grandfather each year. I agree with you, I hate traveling on the holiday - it is just so much easier being at my own house.

Our main tradition is pizza on Christmas Eve. My family has been going out for pizza since I was a kid on Christmas Eve.
